The Cambodian National Police, assisted by SISHA investigators have arrested four offenders (3 male, 1 female) charged with the heinous crime of human trafficking. Over 33 Cambodians from Kampong Chhnang, (many of the victim’s children) were sold, held against their will, and were trafficked into Thailand. The human trafficking syndicate was operating under the pretense of well-paid work on rice farms offering 1-2 Million Riel ($250-500 USD) per month to vulnerable people living in the region of Kampong Chhnang. Once recruited, victims were delivered to the 3 brokers in Battambang then trafficked and sold into Thailand, forced to work without pay. Victims took any opportunity to flee back to Cambodia and seek help from their family and friends. The newly returned community members alerted the local Police to the human trafficking case to help other victims still remaining in Thailand. SISHA has a strong relationship with the Cambodian National Police and was called to provide assists with the human trafficking investigation. SISHA’s investigators tracked down all brokers, who are are currently in pre-trial detention, awaiting a court date while SISHA’s Aftercare team are providing trauma counseling to all victims. |
