SISHA pursues date rapist

A 16-year-old girl went out on New Year’s Eve with a 26-year-old man she had met through a mutual friend. After dinner he tricked the girl into going to a guesthouse he was staying at by asking her to wait inside while he used the bathroom.

He then pulled her inside his room, locked the door, and raped her three times throughout the night.

The offender then fled the guesthouse, leaving the girl alone and in shock.

The incident was reported to the police and Friends International the following morning, who contacted SISHA to arrange aftercare services and assist with the investigation.

SISHA’s Aftercare Team arranged medical services for the victim, including a medical examination to collect evidence and build the case.

The Operations Team also took her statement of events and has been closely assisting in the search for her offender in cooperation with Phnom Penh Criminal Investigations Department.

According to the ECPAT Database Report on Rape and Trafficking 2009, only 6 percent of suspected rapists are held accountable for their crimes.
