In late 2008, SISHA was privileged to take part in the global MTV End Exploitation and Trafficking (EXIT) Campaign to raise awareness about human trafficking and exploitation through four high profile free concerts held in Cambodia.

The first outdoor concert was held on Ochenteal Beach in Sihanoukville on Saturday 22 November 2008 with an estimated 8,000 people in attendance. Other concerts were held in Kampong Cham, with ~20,000 attending, and in Phnom Penh at Olympic Stadium with ~50,000 Cambodians attending. SISHA participated at each event by having a stall at the concert with SISHA staff handing out information flyers about our work and rain ponchos displaying SISHA’s logo, key message and the SISHA Hotline number.

The highlight of the MTV EXIT campaign was the historic concert held in Siem Reap on 7 December 2008 where the UNESCO World Heritage site Angkor Wat provided a spectacular backdrop. Headlining the event was UK rock band Placebo, supported by US group The Click Five, Grammy Award winner Duncan Sheik, Australian singer Kate Miller-Heidke and some of Cambodia’s biggest recording artists. SISHA’s Executive Director Steve Morrish was invited to be the “Human Trafficking Expert” at the press conference held prior to the event.

Information about SISHA’s 24hr Investigations Hotline was printed on MTV EXIT’s fold out informational cards which are expected to be disseminated to up to 60,000 people in Cambodia. A documentary film entitled MTV EXIT Live in Cambodia premiered on Cambodian local television on March 21, 2009 and was re-played on April 19, 2009, raising awareness about human trafficking and exploitation to those unable to attend the concerts.
